This handmade wrought iron well cover is the perfect way to cover your well or pond and protect people and animals from falling down it whilst also being a stunning feature!
It is made from heavy duty 12mm shaped square bar with a 30mm outer frame so will not bend or flex, the galvanised and painted finish will also prevent rust making this a maintenance free product.
They are made with fixing lugs either side so that it can be screwed down. We can also manufacture these with a hinge on one side and a lock plate for padlocking on the other side (see first picture) or with two lock plates (see second picture) so that the cover can be completely removable. There is no extra cost for these options just let us know your preferred option during the messages part of checkout.
Please note that on the hinged well cover the cover may need to be propped up when open. The gap size between the bars is 115mm at its widest.

Measuring Guide and Delivery Times
Widths:
Before you complete your purchase for your gates or railings you need to make sure that you are ordering the correct size.
The widths shown are the size between your posts or pillars and NOT the actual size of the gate or railing.
To work out the size needed you will need to measure (as accurately as possible) the distance between your posts or pillars and this is the size / width that you will need to order.
Height:
The heights of the gates and railings shown are the actual height, measured from the bottom to the highest point of the gate or railing. When checking the height of the item needed please do not forget to allow for ground clearance, typically 6cm for gates and 4cm for railings.
If you are having any trouble working out the size required please contact us – we are always happy to help.
Hanging side:
When ordering a gate, please let us know if you require:
- The gate to be hung from the left or the right
- Opening inward or outward (when looking from the outside of the property in)
Please place this information in the “messages” section of the checkout. If no message is left, the gate will be made to hang off the left opening inwards.
Delivery times:
As most of our items are handmade to order in our workshop, from receiving cleared payment the (approximate) delivery times are as follows:
Just painted gates and railings – 5 to 10 working days.
Galvanised and painted gates and railings – 20 to 27 working days.
For larger items (such as gates and railings) you will be contacted when your item is ready to ship to arrange a delivery date. For smaller items we will not contact you, your item will be shipped as soon as it is ready.

The big advantage of Calder is that they are online with clear pricing for different options. Much better than vague discussions with local blacksmiths. Product is substantial and well made. Painting is good but in transit one or two bare patches occur which need touching up. There was a mix up in sending but the problem was handled professionally.

The product is all that Calder Gates said it would be and I am happy with my purchase, with one small observation... the black spray paint job could have been a bit more thorough. The well cover got slightly scratch-damaged in transport (even though wrapped reasonably well) so I had to spray paint it anyway, which gave me the chance to cover the small areas in the corners of the grille that hadn't been painted.
